DTCC: Gross notional total of credit default swaps in DTCC registry is $33.6 trillion. $15.4 trillion in single-name CDS, and $14.8 trillion in CDS linked to indexes. DTCC claims that its registry captures about 90% of the CDS market.
That's actually larger than I was expecting, but still much smaller than the numbers constantly cited by the media.
